Catlin Court garage door specialists

A bungalow garage here can be small, detached from the house, and built around a wood door. There is no room in the opening for a door that binds or a track that sits out of line. Tell us what yours is doing and someone from our team calls you back.

What you get

What you get in Catlin Court

Garage door repair in Catlin Court works around small openings and wood doors, and both change what can be done.

  • A spring wound to the weight of a wood door, which is heavy and unforgiving when the spring is wrong.
  • Hinges and rollers sized for the door, so the panels stay flat instead of twisting at the stile.
  • A track set straight in an opening with no spare width, because a small garage forgives nothing.
  • A repair that keeps the original door on the house where the wood can still be saved.

The doors in Catlin Court

Catlin Court was established in 1914 and named by Otto R. Hansen after his wife's maiden name. It was the first organized building expansion in Glendale, and the district sits around 58th and 59th Avenues, between Gardenia and Palmaire Avenues. The district went on the National Register on June 9, 1992.

Bungalows were the most common style, and the garages that came with houses of that era were often small and detached, set behind the house. Original doors from that period would have been wood, and some may remain. That changes the job. A wood door needs a spring wound to its weight, hinges that carry it without twisting the frame, and a track that is straight, because a small opening has no room to forgive a crooked door.

What people ask us in Catlin Court

Still have a question? Call (747) 243-2089 and say what the door is doing.

Can the original wood door be kept?

Usually, if the frame is sound. A split at a stile, a hinge plate that pulled loose or a bottom rail that has dried out can be repaired. Rot through the panel is a different answer, and you hear it straight.

Why does the door bind halfway up?

The usual cause is a track out of line or a roller worn flat on 1 side. A wood door also swells and dries with the seasons, so a door that dragged in July can free up in December.

Is a wood door worth the work?

When the wood is dry and the frame is whole, yes. A new door is the bigger spend, and it is not always the better answer. When the bottom rail is gone and the panels have gone soft, a replacement is the cheaper road.
